Exploring Thailand’s Yachting Future Through Dialogue

Audience at the welcome session of the Thailand Yachting Conference

On 14 January, we brought the Kgotla dialogue approach to the Phuket Asia Yachting Show to explore a practical question: What can be improved to help Thailand’s yachting industry thrive?

We prepared a presentation and organised a small lunchtime dialogue as part of our engagement with more than 100 conference participants. The aim was to create space for people to share their experience, raise questions and contribute ideas about the industry’s future.

A conference brings knowledge and experience into one place. Dialogue helps put that knowledge to work. Our lunchtime gathering offered an opportunity to continue the conversation in an informal setting, inviting participants to speak about the challenges and opportunities they see in their everyday work.

Using the Kgotla approach, we encouraged a constructive discussion about improvement: building on what works, understanding where difficulties arise and considering what could be done differently. Listening to different perspectives helps reveal how an issue experienced by one part of the industry may connect to the needs of another.

For Kgotla, a thriving yachting economy depends on cooperation among the people and organisations that make it possible. Conversations like this can help identify shared priorities and provide a starting point for more focused collaboration.

Our contribution in Phuket was a step in that process: bringing people together around a common question and making room for their experience to shape the discussion.

We thank everyone who joined the lunchtime dialogue and exchanged ideas with us during the conference. We look forward to continuing the conversation about Thailand’s yachting future.
