On 31 March 2026, we joined the opening celebrations at Hung Hom’s new waterfront, where classic vessels brought Hong Kong’s maritime heritage into the spotlight. The occasion also marked the launch of the Hong Kong Historic Vessels Foundation, which Kgotla is proud to support.

Together with the Foundation, we helped present the classic vessels at Hung Hom Pier during the opening ceremony. Their presence offered a connection between the city’s seafaring past and the possibilities opening up along its waterfront.

We were pleased to join Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn, fellow representatives of the HKSAR Government’s Development Bureau, and representatives of the Bauhinia group for this occasion.

For Kgotla, supporting historic vessels is about keeping Hong Kong’s relationship with the sea alive. These vessels carry stories of craftsmanship, working lives and journeys across the water. Bringing them into public view creates opportunities for people to discover those stories and understand the maritime traditions that helped shape the city.

The opening at Hung Hom showed how heritage can contribute to an inviting waterfront. Classic vessels can give a place character, spark curiosity and bring generations together around a shared history. They can also inspire interest in boating, traditional skills and careers connected to the sea.

Our support for the Hong Kong Historic Vessels Foundation reflects our wider commitment to a thriving maritime economy in which heritage, community and industry all have a place. As Hong Kong develops its waterfronts, we believe these connections deserve to be part of the conversation.

We thank the Foundation, the Development Bureau, the event partners and everyone involved in presenting the vessels. It was a pleasure to help celebrate this new chapter for Hung Hom and share a part of Hong Kong’s maritime story.
