A unique setting for dialogue

Wayfoong

Way Foong was launched in September 1930 as a coal-fired steam vessel — a modified replica of her 1898 predecessor — commissioned by the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC).

She served the bank in various roles: ferrying executives across the harbour, towing barges of silver bullion to Queen's Pier, and hosting the famous "burning picnics" of the 1930s, when staff burned cancelled banknotes in her furnace as she cruised Hong Kong waters.

After more than 70 years of service, Way Foong passed into private hands in the early 2000s and has since been lovingly restored, preserving her teak decks, brass telegraph, and 1930s character.

This historic vessel may be available for selected leadership workshops, executive meetings and educational events, as part of the fleet cared for by the Hong Kong Historic Vessels Foundation.
