US-based Tennant is a global corporation founded in 1870 which produces floor-cleaning machines and speciality floor coatings. The company had developed an innovative technique based on electrolysed water to facilitate floor cleaning without the use of chemicals.
The dream: To take the revolutionary, new cleaning product to the market; to redefine and reorganise the marketing and sales departments; to bring clarity to the fundamental changes in roles, responsibilities and processes within the company which are needed to facilitate the new approach.
The result: Clarity about which intra-company processes would actually influence future strategy; decisions about which units needed to be adapted to deal with the change. Experts from all over the world were heard during the Kgotla, allowing the formulation of a truly global vision to tackle and solve problems.
The Kgotla led to a simplified changeover programme and greater clarity about roles and responsibilities. Global teams took the vision to the regions, adapted for the culture of the countries where they were based. One year on, and the company continues to function along the lines agreed in the Kgotla.
‘We are preparing ourselves for the next phase: chemical-free leadership. Through the Kgotla process we have been able to build a strong identity, a vision and a healthy community of leaders and project team members to realise our dream.’
